Trees are becoming a safety issue
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
I am writing this letter with the hopes that the town will help me out with a safety issue. I own property at 9 Manitou Road, which is off of Lake Road, and my 88-year-old mother lives on Glen Road, which is also off of Lake and Manitou. I am concerned about two dead trees that might prevent emergency vehicles from getting to her and others if these two trees should fall and block the road.
There are two dead trees that need to come down before we have a fatality. One is at the beginning of Lake Road, the other is before 20 Lake Road.
Mrs. Anderson, who lives at 20 Lake Road, called but was told it is a private way and that nothing can be done about it.
I want to point out to you that we do have children that walk out to the school bus and these dead trees, God forbid, could let go at any time and fall on these children, never mind a passing vehicle.
I think it is in the best interest of the town to at least come out and assess the two trees that are in question.
If the two trees do fall, they would also cause a fire/ambulance safety issue as the emergency personnel would not be able to obtain entrance to the other roads that lead into the area. As you know, it is a one-way-in, one-way-out situation, thus causing a serious delay in getting to anyone who might need emergency attention. Another situation is the fact that these two trees could fall on the electrical wires, thus rendering another safety situation.
I would appreciate it if the appropriate personnel could look into this matter and see if we could not come to some mutual agreement to keep the area safe for all concerned.
Thank you again for your kind consideration in clearing up this matter.
Best regards,
Dorothy A. Sasin
