Resident given warning for illegal fireworks display
By Mike BergerA resident on Abbey Lane was given a stern warning from Fire Chief Charlie Doody and Police Chief Ken Berkowitz after the individual was caught setting off an illegal fireworks display last Tuesday evening, July 3. Both firefighters and police were called to the scene and confiscated the fireworks. Both chiefs decided to warn the resident and not press charges. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said the call was concerning as it comes on the heels of a large fireworks display in Pelham, New Hampshire, that injured several family members.
Fire Dept. applies for turnout gear grant
The Canton Fire Department, through Deputy Chief Scott Johnson, has applied for a federal grant of $163,000 that would pay for the cost of all individual firefighter turnout gear, including coats, pants, and boots.
DCR awards Trailside Museum 175K in state matching funds
The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has awarded the Blue Hills Trailside Museum in Milton $175,000 in state matching funds. The grant money will be used to provide environmental education programs and materials for school groups, summer camp participants, and park visitors. The grant is in response to advocacy done by the Mass Audubon Society.
