The American Legion team are the 2012 champions of the Canton Men’s Over 30 Softball League. The team finished with an overall record of 8-4 and entered the playoffs as the second seed. The team won the championship thanks to several exciting comebacks in the late innings.

In the first round, the team came back to beat Canton Junction 4-3 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh. In the second round, the team scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings and went on to win 10-9 in ten innings over Schneiders & Schneiders. In the final game, the team scored two runs in the sixth and held on for a 2-1 victory over Marriott to claim the title.

This is the second consecutive year that the Legion has won the championship. This year’s playoff MVP was Mike O’Donnell, who had two key hits in the semifinals.

The other finalist, Marriott, finished in first place in the regular season with a 9-4 record. Marriott Manager Rich Morganelli said the team adopted the nickname “Band of Brothers” because it was led by a corps of nine guys who are over 50 years old and who love the competition.

Team members included Rob Kenyon, Bob Kenyon, Ron Morganelli, Bob Maffie, Chris Lougran, Al Jackson, Kevin Hayes, Joe Guiducci, Steve Block, Paul Connaughton, Dan McNeil, Rick Nutter, Mike Quinlan, Joe Caraco, Keary Rosado, Jim Igo, Tony Schatz, and Kevin Callahan.
