Skyler Fields, age 10, of Canton, has enjoyed a whirlwind season complete with blue ribbon wins, championships, and the opportunity to compete at three of the country’s most prestigious horse shows this year.

Less than a year ago the young equestrian was garnering awards for her accomplishments throughout Massachusetts and New England. This year, Fields not only began jumping bigger fences, moving up several ranks from Short Stirrup to the Pony Hunters, but she also ventured out of the Northeast.

Her stops included a trip to the United States Equestrian Federations National Pony Hunter Finals this past August, which was held in Lexington, Kentucky. Then it was on to the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg.

Most recently she competed at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Her partners for the competitions have included “Liseter Sea Cloud,” “Stone Haven Ring Master,” and “Silly Putty.” All three ponies are Welsh geldings ranging in size from medium to large.

Fields has trained under the tutelage of June Gillis-Ahern from Victory Stables, Inc. of Stoughton for the past three years. Victory offers year-round lessons for ages 4 and up as well as boarding, training, and summer camps.

A typical week has Fields taking anywhere from four to six lessons as well as practicing between competitions. She hopes to attend the Devon Horse Show this coming spring and is also looking forward to heading back to Kentucky next August as she has already qualified for the 2013 National Pony Hunter & Medal Finals.
