Community Club of Canton grateful for support, recognition
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
On October 2, the Community Club of Canton celebrated its 100th anniversary at Brookmeadow Country Club. I would like to thank the owners and staff of Brookmeadow for their generosity and also for doing such an outstanding job. Also, thank you to the many businesses, friends, relatives, and members of our club for their generous donations to our Memory Book. Because of the generosity of so many, we will be presenting two one-time $1,000 scholarships to Canton High School graduating seniors in May 2013. One of the scholarships is in memory of our first president, Mildred Dunbar, and the other is in honor of the 100th anniversary celebration.
Thanks also to all the businesses that donated gift certificates and special items for our drawings. It made the celebration so much fun.
The Community Club of Canton was honored to receive a joint House and Senate proclamation presented by Senator Brian Joyce and Representative Bill Galvin; a citation from the town of Canton presented by member and Selectman Avril Elkort proclaiming October 2, 2012, Community Club of Canton Day; a citation presented by Tony Andreotti from the Veterans Department; another from the Canton Board of Health presented by Terry Khoury; and a plaque presented by Fire Chief Charlie Doody, president of the Canton Helpline, along with Carolann Browne and Cindy Poshkus, co-directors of the Canton Food Pantry. Sheila Shea, first vice president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs International, and Mary Ann Pierce, Massachusetts state president, also honored us with citations.
Other invited guests, including Police Chief Ken Berkowitz, Library Director Mark Lague, Canton High School Principal Derek Folan, Historical Society President Wally Gibbs, and Canton Citizen Editor Beth Erickson all offered congratulatory wishes to the Community Club of Canton.
A very special huge thank you to all the members of the 100th Anniversary Committee for all the hours they worked to make this very memorable celebration happen.
Sincerely,
Jean (Peg) Keddy
President
