Canton Writes announces 4th annual call for entries
By Canton CitizenCanton Writes, the town-wide short story and poetry contest, kicks off this week. As in the past three years, there will be five categories for authors to enter: elementary school, middle school, high school, young adult (19-30), and adult.
A writer may submit an entry in either or both short story and poetry categories. No entry may exceed 1,000 words.
This year, the Canton Writes committee consists of Chair Kathy Fox Alfano, Dottie Shea, Peg Mead, Joyce Wiseman, Michael Sundin, and Mark Lague. Entries must be submitted via email to cantonwrites@town.canton.ma.us in a “Rich-Text” or Microsoft Word format (no version later than 2007) by March 1, along with a submission form available on the Canton Library website.
Winners will be notified by email and announced in the Canton Citizen on April 11, and the awards night will be April 16 at the Canton Public Library. First, second and third prizes will be awarded, and authors will have the opportunity to read their work to the assembly.
All participants who authorize a release with their submission form will be published in the Canton Writes 2013 print edition, which will be available for purchase, and at a special price to authors.
Submission forms and more information may be found at town.canton.ma.us/library. Canton Writes is sponsored by the Friends of the Canton Public Library, the Canton Cultural Council, and the Canton Citizen.
