Hannington honors his sports teams with special awards night
By Canton CitizenAttorney Glen Hannington recently celebrated the winning ways of his four sponsored Canton softball teams at a year-ending banquet held at Gatherings at the Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton by bringing 110 of his softball players and guests together for a prime rib dinner. The teams included the champion Canton Men’s League team, the Hannington Club, which, for the second straight year, went undefeated (20-0 during the regular season); the champion EMass over-50 team, Hannington’s of Canton (29-2 for the season); the Hannington Classics, winners of the over-55 weekday Bay State League with an overall record of 30-7; and the Hannington Thunder, a finalist in the over-50 EMass League.
The evening was highlighted by the featured guest speaker, the voice of Fenway Park, public announcer Carl Beane. Beane entertained the banquet crowd with his story of how he became the Red Sox announcer in 2003, following in the footsteps of his idol, the famed Sherm Feller. Beane said he was fortunate enough in his second year to be able to announce the first two home games in the World Series and see the Red Sox become world champions for the first time in 86 years. He talked about the 2007 World Series, which the Red Sox won in four straight games. Beane showed off his World Series rings, and he let the players and guests wear them for pictures.
Also speaking at the banquet was Darrell Maxwell, the coach of the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Attorney Hannington is a member of the board of directors of the Gatemen.
This year, the annual George Macari Sportsmanship Award was presented to Mike Zina, a member of the Hannington’s Club in the Men’s Softball League. Mike received the award for his exceptional sportsmanship on and off the field.
The National Anthem was performed by Patrick McDermott, Norfolk County register of probate, and God Bless America was beautifully sung by Madeline Rino, who is the wife of softball player Lenny Rino.
This was Hannington’s 24th sponsored awards night for his softball teams.
