Boys’ basketball team impresses in win over KP

The CHS boys’ basketball team improved to 6-10 with a decisive 58-37 win over King Philip last Tuesday at home. The Bulldogs are proving once again that if they keep their turnovers to a minimum, play good half-court defense, and be patient on offense, they are a hard team to beat.

The Bulldogs never trailed in the game and used a 21-7 fourth-quarter run to seal the victory.

Matt Kelley returned from an illness to score 12 points, including three three-pointers. Sam Larson continues to be the team’s leading scorer, finishing with 21 points, while Andrew Mansfield had a solid all-around performance with nine points, eight rebounds, and five blocked shots.

Head coach Ryan Gordy said one of the keys to the win was holding KP’s leading scorer, Jim Layman, to five points.

“We played a well-rounded game,” Gordy said. “We ran a pretty efficient offense, especially with limited turnovers. And when we don’t turn the ball over, we limit their easy baskets. Overall, we are playing very good half-court defense.”

“Everyone is playing up to their potential and we are peaking at the right time,” he added. “Everything is clicking now and everyone is fulfilling their role.”

Last weekend’s snowstorm has changed the schedule of the remaining five regular season games. The Friday, February 8 game at Sharon has been moved to Wednesday, February 20. The February 12 away game against Stoughton was moved to Wednesday, February 13.

Canton will host Foxboro this Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Fairhaven on Monday at 5:30 p.m. If the Bulldogs win one of those two games, they will make the Division 3 playoffs.
