Canton High cheerleaders shine at UCA camp
By GuestMembers of the Canton High School cheerleading team recently attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camp held August 2-5 at Mount Ida College in Newton.
This four-day camp provided opportunities for cheerleaders to learn and participate in new cheers, dances, jumps, stunts and team-bonding activities.
Several Canton cheerleaders made their mark at the camp, including Tristan Bigot and Bridget Monagle, who took first and fourth place, respectively, out of more than 250 competitors in the annual “jump contest.”
Bigot and Nikkie Wong were also among the few who were chosen to become All-Americans and have the opportunity to cheer in London at the New Year’s Day parade. The All-American tryout required cheerleaders to perform the new material and skills that they had learned at the camp.
On the final day of camp Canton competed in the Elite division and received second place for its dance and first place for its cheer. Canton also went home with the Team Leadership Award, which was voted on by the other teams at the camp, and the Spirit Award, which was voted on by the staff members.
The coaches are extremely proud of their team and excited for a great season!
