The Canton Police Department and Animal Control Officer Nadya Branca are asking the public’s help with any information about the dumping of at least 150 red-eared slider turtles into Reservoir Pond the weekend of September 21-22.

The Canton Animal Control office, the Animal Rescue League, the state Environmental Police, and the Mass. Division of Fisheries and Wildlife are working on a joint investigation.

The turtles are native to the southern United States and northern Mexico and are therefore accustomed to a warm climate.

Branca reportedly recovered 100 dead turtles and rescued 50 live turtles during the weekend of September 21-22. She found additional turtles, both live and dead, in a follow-up patrol of Reservoir Pond last week.

The Fire Department has assisted Branca in the recovery of the turtles. Anyone who has information should contact the Animal Control office at 781-575-6507.
