Firefighters still do not know what caused a power outage that hit Canton Center on Wednesday morning, October 9, around 9:30 a.m.

The outage impacted homes and businesses from downtown Canton to Cobb’s Corner. The outage also caused heating units to shut down at McDonald’s and caused the restaurant to fill with smoke. The building was evacuated for 30 minutes.

Fire Lt. Donnie Lester said firefighters and personnel from NStar Electric worked for a few hours before all power was restored. Lester said the outage also caused many fire alarms to trip inside buildings.
