Approximately 50 people attended the re-dedication of the town’s World War I memorial on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, at Veterans Memorial Park. Canton historian and Citizen columnist George Comeau was the keynote speaker, and the American Legion band played the Star Spangled Banner, Taps, and two additional songs from the World War I era. Selectmen Avril Elkort and John Connolly attended the ceremony. Connolly addressed the gathering, and, along with Legion Commander Fred Gladstone, re-enacted the original 1926 dedication by doing the roll call of the 14 Canton residents lost in action — a list that included Helen Homans, the only woman.
