Police arrest 2 in separate drug incidents
By Mike BergerA Dorchester man is facing drug possession charges after he was arrested in Canton over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 28, near Cynthia Road on the Canton-Randolph line. Two off-duty police officers noticed the suspect — who was later identified as Michael Scanlon, 45, of Dorchester — acting suspiciously near the wood line on private property. He was observed wearing a yellow reflective “police style” coat and carrying a flashlight, and when one of the officers approached him, he fled into the woods.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the area and eventually located the man on Randolph Street with the help of one of the off-duty officers. After a brief investigation, Scanlon was arrested and charged with possession of a Class B substance (crystal meth). The drugs that were seized had a street value of $1,500, according to police. Last December, Scanlon was arrested by Wellesley Police after a routine traffic stop turned up $50,000 worth of crystal meth.
Deputy Police Chief Helena Findlen said it is still not clear why Scanlon was in the area or “what he was doing along the wood line.”
He was held at Canton Police headquarters on $1 million bail before being transported to Stoughton District Court for arraignment on December 2. Scanlon is currently being held at the Dedham House of Correction on other previous charges.
Two days after Scanlon’s arrest, another Dorchester man, 53-year-old Kevin Lee, was arrested and charged with possession of a Class E substance (steroids) following a traffic stop by new Canton Police Officer Eli Anderson. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 29, around 2:30 a.m. Lee was stopped for speeding, and a subsequent search of his vehicle turned up 100 steroid pills.
