Congdon, James H.
By Canton CitizenJames Herbert “Bert” Congdon, 66, of Canton, passed away suddenly on December 13, 2013.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, and raised in Cranston, RI, he graduated from Cranston East High School in 1965. Bert earned a BA from Amherst College in 1969 and later an MBA from Boston University. He worked for Polaroid for 27 years and also worked for Bristol Myers Squibb, Lantheus Medical Imaging, A123 Systems, and most recently for Cubist Pharmaceuticals.
He was an active member of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton, serving as a past president and head of the Finance Committee. When his boys were younger, Mr. Congdon was involved in Canton Pop Warner and Canton Youth Hockey. Bert enjoyed spending time playing golf, skiing, and riding his BMW motorcycle, and he was a member of the Yankee Beemers Club.
Beloved husband of Piret K. (Virks). Loving father of Christopher J. of Canton and Wesley V. and his wife, Lindsey Shumway, of Charlestown. Brother of Joseph Congdon of UT, Linda Congdon-Marr of CT, and Kathleen Congdon of RI. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Friday from 4-8 p.m. Friends and relatives respectfully invited to attend a funeral service at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist, 1508 Washington Street, Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment immediately following at Canton Corner Cemetery.
