Paul Matthews Foundation to hold 2nd annual ‘Celebration of Community Spirit’ fundraiser
By Canton CitizenThe Paul R. Matthews Foundation is pleased to announce its second annual “Celebration of Community Spirit” event to be held Friday, September 24, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Pequitside Farm. This celebration raises funds for the Paul R. Matthews Foundation, established in memory of Matthews, a longtime member of the Canton School Committee and advocate for the youth of the community. The foundation’s mission is to support the children and students of Canton through scholarships and programs.
Last year’s inaugural event enabled the foundation to provide over $10,000 through scholarships and grants to several applicants whose mission reflected the goals of the foundation.
“The support from the community for our inaugural event last year was overwhelming,” said Suzanne Matthews, president of the foundation. “Through the generosity of everyone who participated or sent donations, we were able to support several worthwhile programs and award two scholarships to deserving Canton High graduates who exemplify community spirit. Our hope is to make this year even more successful than the last so we can continue with our mission to offer grants to innovative programs that benefit the youth of our community.”
Paul Matthews strongly believed that it was participation in youth activities and community service that played an integral part in the success of Canton’s students. This foundation carries on his mission of uniting our community in support of these significant programs and events and to instill in our students the personal rewards and benefits of community teamwork and service.
