Praise for Canton’s poll workers
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
Having worked for many years in the election process in Canton, I can appreciate the work that is done by the poll workers. The day begins for them at 6:30 a.m. until the polls close at 8 p.m. There is complete accountability for the ballots. The final count has to equal the ballots used. Some time before the election Town Clerk Tracy Kenney and her staff have a meeting with the workers to discuss any problems that may arise from the ballot process. When the polls are closed, the ballots are counted (by machine), then are taken to town hall by police escort for storage.
Canton has six precincts that are located in various places within the town. The system is extremely well organized, which is a credit to town management. Canton poll workers recently received a well-deserved pay increase of $1 per hour. They do have a small break for lunch with the meal provided by the town. Most have other jobs but take the day off for this. Canton does have several elections this year and is well prepared to handle it. The poll worker will be back again with work that is always excellent.
Sincerely,
Edward Marshall
