New supt. wraps up busy 1st month with CHS dean hire

Completing her first busy month as school superintendent, Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller appointed Julieanne (Julie) Shore as the new Canton High School dean of students. Shore replaces Jim Goff, who will be returning to full-time teaching in the social studies department at CHS.

rodman1Fischer-Mueller said Goff was a “critical” member of the CHS administrative team, having served as dean for the past four years.

Shore comes to CHS with 10 years of teaching experience at Norwood High School. She also served as Advanced Placement coordinator, SAT Prep program coordinator, high school instructional technology facilitator, and as a facilitator for several student activities. She also assisted a group of teachers in Norwood who are focusing on integrating cultural proficiency into curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Shore received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northeastern University and spent several years working as an accountant. She also worked for the Junior Achievement Program and obtained her teacher’s license, and while in Norwood, she brought Junior Achievement programming in the classroom.

Shore is completing her master’s degree in educational leadership and is currently licensed as an administrator, having completed the MSSAA Leadership Licensure Program.

Fischer-Mueller was also busy during the month of July hiring many new instructors and meeting with directors and administrators to map out a strategic plan for the coming school year.

As of July 28, the Canton Public Schools have hired 35 professionals with six more positions to fill. Nine new full-time-equivalent positions were built into the FY17 budget; the remainder of the new hires are the result of educators not returning or retiring.

Fischer-Mueller reported that many of the applicants said they chose Canton because of the community, its team approach to learning, and teacher diversity in the system.

Regarding school enrollment, Fischer-Mueller reported that 86 new students have registered for the district, although there is currently no count of students leaving the system. The new enrollees include 18 students at CHS, 14 at the Galvin, 13 at the Luce, 32 at the Hansen, and nine at the JFK. Twenty-five of the 86 new students are new kindergarten registrations.
