3 charged in connection with Shaw’s robberies
By Mike BergerCanton and Stoughton police made three arrests last week in connection with three robberies in the Canton Shaw’s parking lot over the last few weeks. Two suspects were arrested by Canton police and a third was arrested by the Stoughton police.
Canton detectives arrested Ihor V. Havryliv, 30, of 196 Greenbrook Drive in Stoughton and Alyssa S. DeLellis, 28, also of 196 Greenbrook Drive in Stoughton. Stoughton police arrested Arthur W. Peoples, 48, of 398 Bay Road in Stoughton.
Havryliv was charged with conspiracy, attempting to commit a crime, using a motor vehicle without authority, and two counts of conspiracy. DeLellis was charged with larceny over $250, attempting to commit a crime, three counts of conspiracy, and two counts of unarmed robbery over 60 years old and assault and battery on a disabled person over 60 years old. Peoples was charged with assault and battery on a disabled person over 60, two counts of conspiracy, two counts of unarmed robbery, and two counts of using a motor vehicle without authority.
In the first incident on January 29 at 7:15 p.m., a female suspect demanded a woman’s purse. The woman refused to comply and ran into Shaw’s to call 911.
On Monday, February 6, at 6:30 p.m., a woman shopper was approached and assaulted by a male suspect who then stole the victim’s purse. The third incident occurred on Wednesday, February 8, at 8:30 a.m. when another female shopper was approached by a female suspect who demanded and then forcefully took her purse.
Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz said all three suspects were held on $30,000 bail and are in custody at various correctional facilities. Berkowitz said the investigation found that Havryliv is a mechanic at a repair shop in Canton Center. He and his girlfriend allegedly used unsuspecting customers’ vehicles to commit the unarmed robberies. After a televised press conference, a Canton resident recognized his truck in the video. He came forward almost immediately to let police know that he had brought his car in for repairs the day of the robbery. Berkowitz commended Detectives John Ruane and Glen Piro, Detective Sgt. Paul Gallagher, and Officer Robert Quirk for their investigative work and also praised the work of the Stoughton police.
