By Canton CitizenMarie E. (Donovan) Kent, 88, of Canton and Mashpee, passed away March 9, 2018.
Beloved wife of the late Philip J. Kent. Loving daughter of the late Jerome and Mary (Toye) Donovan and loving sister of the late Louise (Donovan) Kingston. Devoted mother of John and his wife, Maria Kent, Philip and Brian. Also loved by her grandchildren, Maiti, Brenna, and Liam.
Graduate of Lawrence (MA) High School, Colby College, Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, and Honors graduate in Nursing from University of Massachusetts Boston. Certified in nursing administration from American Nurses Association. Member of Colby Alumni Association, St. Jude Catholic Nurses organization, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and Certified Master Gardener.
In addition to raising three sons by herself, Marie worked in the nursing profession for over 40 years — at Massachusetts General Hospital, Immaculate Heart Camp, Visiting Nurse Association, Norwood Hospital, and Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for the Aged. Marie was a voracious reader, loved flowers and gardening, and was known for her homebaked cookies and Irish bread. For many years she knitted beautiful sweaters and scarves for family and others. She also loved sports, especially following her Perry family cousins of Andover.
In retirement, Marie enjoyed attending various family members’ celebrations and events, and hosting family and friends at her beach home in Mashpee. She also volunteered at the Canton library, Mashpee library, Christ the King Thrift Shop, and the Cape Cod Extension Hot Line as a Master Gardener.
A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial at Canton Corner Cemetery.
