Koen, Mary A.
By Canton CitizenMary A. Koen (Hunzelman), of Canton, formerly of Roslindale, passed away peacefully May 1.
Born and raised in Dorchester, she lived in Roslindale for 60 years before moving to Canton 10 years ago. A graduate of Cathedral High School and Boston Teachers College, she received her MBA from Northeastern University. Mary taught grammar school for over 20 years in Randolph and in Boston at St. Andrew’s, Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Lourdes parishes. She also worked for over 20 years for the city of Boston Inspectional Services Department. She was a member of St. Andrew’s, Sacred Heart and St. Gerard Majella parish choirs.
Beloved wife of the late John F. “Jack” Koen, Sr. Mother to Kathleen M. Haverty and her husband, David, of Belmont and Jack Koen and his wife, Melissa, of Canton. “Nana” to four grandchildren, Jack and Erin Haverty of Belmont and Audrey and Kayleigh Koen of Canton. Daughter to the late Alice and Alexander Hunzelman.
A funeral mass was held Monday in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Burial New Calvary Cemetery.
