Horigan, Mary M.
By Canton CitizenMary M. Horigan (Hagerty), 86, formerly of Canton and Milton, passed away March 19 at the Harrington House in Walpole after a brief illness. She has been a resident of New Pond Village in Walpole since 2004.
Mary was the daughter of the late Andrew C. and Margaret (Welch) Hagerty. She was born and raised in Boston and attended Boston schools. Mary was a voracious reader, a love she passed on to her children. She also was a great cook and loved to travel. After touring much of the United States, she more recently began visiting Europe, especially her beloved Florence, Italy, which she visited three times. She also traveled to Bermuda, Fiji, Australia, Switzerland, France and Greece.
Beloved wife of the late Leo J. (USN Ret.) Mother of Maureen Devlin and her husband, Richard, of Canton; Michael and his wife, Nancy, of Standish, ME; Stephen and his wife, Christine, of Quincy; and the late Gerard P. Horigan. Mother in law of Patricia Horigan-Kaufman and the late Kevin Ryan. Grandmother of Kathryn Lockwood, Terrence Ryan, Lynn Long, Michelle Dalrymple, Christine, Colleen, Stephanie, Jacqueline and Christopher Horigan. Great grandmother of Nicholas, Jordyn, Joshua, Brandon, Lee, Isabelle, Lillian, Ben, Claire, Gracie, Mollie and Madeline. Step-grandmother to Mark, Michael, Peter and Jon Devlin. Sister of Teresa Walper of Braintree and the late Paul Hagerty. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral mass was held Wednesday morning, March 23, in St. John the Evangelist Church, Canton. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park. Donations may be made in her memory to the Canton Public Library, 786 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
