Richard James Hand Sr., 77, of Canton, died unexpectedly April 26, 2011, at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was born in Athol and raised in Belmont and moved to Canton in 1960. He worked as an iron worker, Local Union #7 in Boston, for over 50 years.

Richard was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Holbrook Sportsman’s Club, the American Legion Post #147 in Rockland, and the Retired Iron Workers Association.

Devoted husband of Florence M. Hand (Dube). Loving father of Richard J. Hand Jr. and his fiancée, Cathy Mondor, of Brockton. Brother of Linda Notartomaso and Carol Berrigan of Belmont. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements will be private. If desired, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to the Angell Animal Medical Center — Boston, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.

Arrangements by the Roache-Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street.
