BOH to host 3rd annual Summer Fun & Safety Fair
By Canton CitizenOn Saturday, May 21, the Board of Health, along with other town departments and community groups, will host the third annual Summer Fun and Safety Fair at Pequitside Farm from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Everyone who enjoys having a good time is invited, and it is hoped that those families with children will take the opportunity to make this an enjoyable family activity. As in the previous Summer Fun and Safety Fairs, there are planned exhibitions and demonstrations for a safe and healthy summer, as well as other enjoyable activities and entertainment for the whole family.
This extraordinary event is sponsored by the Board of Health in conjunction with various town departments, including personnel from the Police, Fire, Canton Public Schools, Recreation, Conservation Commission, and Property Maintenance. Many local community organizations will also be contributing their time and energy to this event.
Among the presentations to be included at the fair are instructive exhibitions of fire and auto safety, tick removal, bike safety, and water and pool safety. Also included will be a sun screen demonstration and Lyme disease education. Families will be able to enjoy such fun activities as hay rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, crafts and more.
Winners of the elementary school bookmark contest will be announced, and those young Canton citizens who gather enough stickers at this event will receive free bike helmets (details will be available at the “door,” but you must arrive early to qualify). Musical entertainment will be brought to you by that renowned DJ, the affable Gary Titus. And anyone wishing to scoff down some delicious, freshly grilled hamburgers or hot dogs or two may do so for a small fee.
New at this event is the MY CHIP childhood identification program, sponsored by the Canton Police Department in conjunction with the Freemasons from Blue Hill Lodge, A.F. & A.M. Parents can have an electronic identification profile, including fingerprints and dental impressions created to help in the event that such information is needed if a child becomes missing.
As usual, this event is free! So make plans to come on down to Pequitside Farm on Saturday, May 21, starting at 10 a.m. and enjoy a day of sun (hopefully) and fun with the entire family. And while you’re at it, discover what things you can do to make your summer safe for all those who matter to you. Hope to see you there!
