Stoughton edges CHS boys’ track team
By Mike BergerThe CHS boys’ outdoor track team came up short against Stoughton Tuesday, losing by seven points, 71.5 to 64.5. The boys’ record is now 1-4 with some losses by less than 10 points.
Jon Vaughn continues to lead the boys in points and placed first again in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Tom Kerikas got three second place finishes — in both hurdles and the long jump.
Obi Nwankwo placed first in the 400 with a time of 52.3. The 400 relay team of Nwankwo, Chris Boughter, Chris Haidul and Cam Huber placed first and qualified for the states with a very good time of 3:37.3.
First-place times were turned in by Vaughn, 100-meter dash, 10.9 seconds, and 200, 23.6 seconds; Nwankwo, 400-meter dash, 52.3 seconds; Huber, 800, 2:07.5; Julian Malbranche, javelin, 132 feet, five inches; Matt Sidney, high jump, six feet, two inches; and Boughter, long jump, 19 feet, nine and a half inches.
Second-place points were earned by Kerikas, 400-meter hurdles, 59.2 seconds; Mike Bronstein, mile, 4:52.4, and two mile, 11:33.2; Boughter, 400-meter dash, 53.5 seconds; Kerikas, 100-meter hurdles, 16.2 seconds; Derek Seto, 200, 24.7 seconds; and Kerikas, long jump, 19 feet, four and a half inches.
Third places were recorded by Mike Rota, 800, 2:20; Alex Feldman, 200, 24.9 seconds; Kerikas, triple jump, 35 feet; and Boughter, high jump, five feet, eight inches.
The state freshman-sophomore meet left many athletes disappointed due to a weather-shortened event. Canton’s Peter Sheehan threw a personal best 36 feet, eight inches in the shot put.
The boys’ team was due to face Foxboro in its last dual meet competition Tuesday at Foxboro.
