Wang-Li, Jean F.

By

Jean F. Wang-Li, 60, of Canton, passed away May 18 at Norwood Caritas Hospital surrounded by her husband, children and younger sister.

Jean was born in Taipei, Taiwan, to parents who had recently arrived from Shanghai, China. She studied at National Taiwan University for two years before transferring to Pacific Lutheran University near Tacoma, Washington, where she completed her undergraduate education. Jean went on to earn a master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Washington and worked for two years at Dow Chemical.

In 1980, Jean moved with her family to the Boston area and eventually settled in Canton, where she lived for the rest of her life. While raising her young children, Jean decided to change her career from chemistry to real estate, following in the footsteps of her father, who was a builder and contractor himself, descended from several generations of builders.

Jean spent almost her entire real estate career with RE/MAX Landmark Realtors in Stoughton. She was the second broker to join the then-young franchise in 1985, and remained there until she was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008. Despite lacking any connections or background in the area, she went on to become one of the most successful RE/MAX agents in New England and earned a lifetime achievement award in 2003. More importantly, she befriended many clients in Canton, Stoughton and surrounding communities, with whom she remained in touch over the years. One of the most fulfilling aspects of Jean’s career was working with the many customers who had been referred by former clients or were returning clients themselves.

In addition to her active family life and career, Jean was also an avid ballroom dancer and tennis player. She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Jeff Chi-Hsiung Li; her sons, Darryl and Derek; her father, Teh-Ming Wang; two sisters; a brother; and six nieces and nephews.

Friends and colleagues are respectfully invited to a memorial service at the First Parish Unitarian-Universalist Church, 1508 Washington Street in Canton, on Saturday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a private family ceremony in Seattle.

Donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the MGH Fund, Massachusetts General Hospital, P.O. Box 415062, Boston, MA 02241-5062. The Gillooly Funeral Home, Norwood, is assisting the Wang-Li family with the arrangements. For guestbook and remembrances, please visit gilloolyfuneralhome.com.
