Sprinter Vaughn wraps up distinguished track career

By

Canton High senior Jon Vaughn ran the last race of his high school career at the New England Championships in Vermont on Saturday. He was seeded 11th in the 100-meter race and finished in 11th with a time of 11.41 seconds.

The overall winner was Blackstone-Millville Regional’s Brett Buskey, who finished with a time of 10.91 seconds. Vaughn had placed second behind Buskey a week earlier in the All-State Championships.

CHS boys’ head coach Brian Conroy had nothing but good things to say about Vaughn after Saturday’s race, noting that “Jon worked hard all year and represented Canton and Massachusetts very well in the New England championships.”

Vaughn said he was disappointed in his performance in Saturday’s race, adding that he didn’t feel well physically and was competing with an illness. He acknowledged that he had a good spring, however, and was pleased with his best time of 11.06 in the 100, which he achieved at the Division 3 championships.

Vaughn will be running sprints for Boston College next year as a college freshman.
