News Notes: Man seriously injured in golf cart accident
By Mike BergerA 94-year-old male golfer sustained serious injuries in a golf cart accident at the Blue Hill Country Club last week. The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7. Fire Lt. Tom Norton said the cart rolled down an embankment and landed on the victim, causing serious injuries to his head and upper body. The victim was med-flighted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital from the Kennedy School playing fields. Norton said his condition was not known as of Tuesday morning. For the week of August 5-11, the Fire Department responded to a total of 101 service calls, none of which were opioid-related.
Motor vehicle accident causes Rte. 138 detours
A stretch of Turnpike Street (Route 138) had to be closed for a period of several hours late last week after a motorist struck a utility pole in the area around the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center on Saturday night, August 10. Fire Lt. Tom Norton said the driver was evaluated by EMS personnel but refused medical transport. Eversource was called to fix the pole, which was broken at the base but held up by the attached wires. Canton police closed down Turnpike Street from Randolph to Edward Street and detours remained in place until Sunday afternoon. Police said the driver will be facing marked lanes violations.
School Committee meeting postponed to Aug. 22
Although the Canton School Committee will be meeting in a workshop setting today, the public meeting session has been delayed one week to Thursday, August 22, at 7 p.m. in the CHS Distance Learning Lab.
