Kathleen (Cerro) Kapsis, 93, of Canton, died Wednesday morning, June 15, at the Highgate Manor in Dedham.

Born in Hallowell, Maine, the daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Walsh) Cerro, she was raised and educated in Quincy, where she had resided until moving to Canton over 60 years ago. As a young woman during the war years, she had worked at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy.

For over 20 years, Mrs. Kapsis had been employed by the Canton Public School System, working in the cafeteria at Canton High School.

She enjoyed spending time at the Canton Senior Center and was an active walker who enjoyed spending time in her yard gardening, knitting and reading.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold I. Kapsis; her sisters, Mary Derosier, Isabel Mackey and Frances Cerro; and her brothers, Peter, Daniel and Raymond Cerro.

Mrs. Kapsis is survived by her daughters, Francine Strother and her husband, George, of Wasilla, AK, and Trudy Black and her husband, Joseph; her grandchildren, George Strother, Claire Sanders, Kathleen Black, Airman Samuel Black, USAF, and Kelly Rose Black; and her great-grandson, David Sanders. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service in celebration of Kathleen’s life was held Saturday morning, June 18, at the Roache-Pushard Family Home for Funerals, 210 Sherman Street, followed by a mass of Christian burial in St. Gerard Majella Church.
