Selectmen announce reopening of Pine St. facility
By Canton CitizenThe Board of Selectmen announced on Thursday that it has successfully appealed the designation of the Pine Street Yard Waste Facility and it is now considered an essential service.
The board had requested a waiver from Governor Charlie Baker’s office after learning that other municipalities had been granted similar waivers for operation of their transfer stations during the COVID-19 emergency order. BOS Chairman Chris Connolly noted that with the beginning of spring and with the recent wind and rainstorm that felled many trees and limbs, there is a need for the facility to be reopened while maintaining social distancing measures.
The Pine Street facility reopened on Friday for the processing of yard waste, bulk items, white goods, and overflow trash and recycling. Regular opening hours are Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All rules and regulations pertaining to the facility remain in effect. New stickers are required for the new calendar year. The price of a sticker is $10 and may be purchased at the facility. Users should wear masks as recommended by the CDC and state DPH.
Selectmen also announced last week that they would abide by the request of Republic Services and suspend curbside collection of bulk waste and white goods until the repeal of the governor’s stay-at-home order.
