Perard, Roselyn L.

Roselyn L. Perard (Williams), 64, formerly of Canton, an extremely giving nurse, a devoted wife and mother, an outgoing and loving personality in her church and supporter of many charitable organizations throughout New England, Kenya and the Bahamas, passed away July 17 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Since her move from Nassau, Bahamas, to Hull in the 1950s, Rose pursued her passion for nursing and devoted her education at Northeastern University School of Nursing. Upon graduating, she worked with several hospitals in Boston and Nairobi, Kenya, giving comfort to the patients and forging divine friendships with staff and patients alike. She found a home in 1973, working at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in West Roxbury, where she worked for 37 years. She rose to become head nurse and a loved member of the community until her retirement at the end of 2010.

Her devotion to her faith and charities surmounts to inspirational. She was the chair and founding member of the dinner planning committee of Bishop James A. Healy, who was the first African American bishop in the U.S.; a scripture reader and CCD teacher at St. John the Evangelist in Canton; a member of the Catholic Women’s League; an office leader who advised the cardinal in devising guidelines on the abuse of children; and advisor committee member for the Black Catholics of Boston and countless others.

Roselyn is survived by her husband, Roger Perard; her children, Monique and son-in-law Kyle Myers, Robert and Matthew Perard; and her parents, Atwell Williams and Adriana Forbes.

We respectfully request your presence as we lay Roselyn’s body to rest on Monday, July 25, in Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Parish in Canton. Mass services to begin at 11 a.m. Wake services will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.

In memory of Roselyn’s passion for helping others, we ask that donations be made in her name to the Archdiocese of Black Catholic Ministries, 66 Brooks Drive, Braintree, MA 02184. Flowers will also be accepted if you choose.
