News Notes: Town announces flu vaccine clinics

Several town departments and a host of volunteers will be working together to administer free flu shots to Canton residents on three dates in October. The three flu clinics are being planned to allow residents to stay in their cars and will meet/exceed COVID-19 safety protocols.

Public clinics for residents ages 5 and up will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Galvin Middle School. Regular standard-dose quadrivalent vaccine (ages 5+) and Flumist (ages 5-18) will both be available. A separate clinic prioritizing older adults will be held on Tuesday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Canton Council on Aging. Only the regular standard-dose quadrivalent vaccine will be available.

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged for all clinics and can be completed online via the Flu Clinics on the town website. Residents can also print out a paper form on the website and then call 781-821-5021 to reserve a time. Copies are available at the Canton Health Office at 79 Pleasant Street for those who do not have access to a computer or printer.

New diversity committee seeking applicants

The Canton Select Board is seeking nine residents to serve as members of the newly formed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Those interested should complete an application and submit it to the Select Board at bos@town.canton.ma.us or call the Select Board’s office at 781-821-5000 and speak to Jen Kemalian.

Traffic detoured on Rte. 138 following accident

Traffic had to be detoured for several hours following a single-car motor vehicle accident late Sunday night into Monday on Route 138 at Dan Road. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 11 p.m. and found the vehicle on its side and heavily damaged, according to Fire Lt. Tom Norton. Lt. Norton said the car struck a utility pole, which was cut in half and landed on the passenger side. The lone occupant sustained numerous injuries and was transported to Boston Medical Center for further treatment.

In other news, the Canton EMS Department responded to its first opioid-related call since June 16, successfully treating a 56-year-old male on September 20.
