News notes: Suspected car burglar apprehended
By Mike BergerA Rhode Island man suspected in a string of car break-ins in the Fuller Street neighborhood was arrested last Thursday following a search of the area by Canton police.
A resident of Mountain Ave. had initially called police at around 3 p.m. to report that his motor vehicle had been broken into and he had spotted the suspect fleeing towards the industrial park at 480 Neponset Street. Police Lt. Patty Sherrill said a short time later, a resident of Fuller Street called to say he had just confronted a male party who was in his vehicle rummaging around in the front seat. Officers began canvasing the area and located a man matching the description of the suspect coming out of the bathroom of the Dunkin Donuts on Neponset Street.
The suspect, identified as Christopher Richard, 33, of Coventry, RI, was placed under arrest and charged with multiple counts of breaking and entering into a vehicle, larceny under $1,200 and receiving stolen property, and single counts of attempting to commit a crime and malicious destruction of property. Sherrill said more victims in and around Fuller Street reported that their cars had been broken into and the suspect was found in possession of several items that had been reported stolen.
Additional charges may follow pending a further investigation. In addition to the burglary charges, Richard had an outstanding warrant from Rhode Island police for receiving a stolen motor vehicle and an additional warrant out of Massachusetts.

Brown then allegedly assaulted two women in the apartment and also took money from one of the women. Sherrill said Brown will be charged for the unarmed robbery but is not being charged with the assaults at this time.
