Healy, Leo A.

By

Leo Arthur Barrieau Healy, 98, died peacefully on January 27, 2021, at his son Robert’s home in Plainfield, New Hampshire.

He was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, and at a young age his family moved to Readville, a neighborhood of Boston. He enlisted in the Army prior to World War II and was recruited into the newly formed 10th Mountain Division of the 86th Infantry. Leo returned from the European battlefields a decorated veteran. He was a recognized mountain-climbing pioneer and his expertise and insight remained highly sought after. After being the first manager of the Blue Hill Ski Area, Leo founded Model Engineering Corporation, an innovative machining facility which serviced the computer and space age industries. His spare time activities always reflected his fondness for the outdoors — a love he instilled in his family. His favorite pastimes were skiing, sailing, and most recently iceboating.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth A. (O’Toole); a son, John Edmond; a grandson, Adam Leo; and siblings Raymond, Josephine, Jeanette and Beatrice. He is survived by his daughter Lyn Marie of Canton, son Paul Michael and wife, Patty, of Canaan, NH, and son Robert Leo of Plainfield, NH. He was grandfather to Micheil Boesel of Canton, Liam Watts and wife, Carol Ann, of Hudson, NH, and Matthew Healy and wife, Amber, of Southern Pines, NC, and great-grandfather to Kyleigh and Ryder Healy, also of Southern Pines, NC. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Marie and Evelyn, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, February 10, at Canton Corner Cemetery at 12 noon. For complete obituary and to sign guestbook, see dockrayandthomasfuneralhome.com.
