Harris, Claire P.
By Canton CitizenClaire P. (Hazelwood) Harris, 96, passed away at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton on Sunday, August 14.
Claire was born in Medford and raised in Jamaica Plain and Mattapan. She graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School and worked at the Navy shipyard during WWII. She was a waitress at Schraffts in Boston for many years.
Claire has resided in Canton for the last 62 years where she was a member for over 50 years and volunteer in charge of the Altar Flower Committee’s plant table at the fair at the United Church of Christ in Canton. She was a lifetime member and twice past president of the Canton Garden Club and an avid gardener.
Beloved wife of the late John C. Harris Jr. Loving mother of John C. III and his wife, Susan, of Wrentham, and Lynda J. Shamitz and her husband, Stephen, of Brewster. Sister of the late Frank A. Hazelwood. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristin McMahon of Swampscott, Robert Shamitz of Quincy, and Rachel Gagnon of Beverly, and her four great-grandchildren: Lily, Noah, Tyler and Jennie Claire.
A memorial service will be held in the United Church of Christ, 1541 Washington Street, on Saturday, August 20, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment private.
