Eric MacKinnon chosen to lead boys hoop program
By Canton CitizenThe Canton High School Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Eric MacKinnon as the new boys varsity basketball coach.
MacKinnon succeeds Ryan Gordy, who coached for 10 seasons and was recently promoted to assistant CHS athletic director and remains as Canton Public Schools’ K-12 wellness director.
An alumnus of Oliver Ames, MacKinnon comes to CHS after a five-year stint as an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire. He has also served as a director of Boston Celtics basketball camps and currently teaches wellness and physical education in Easton Public Schools.
“We are thrilled to have a coach of Eric’s collegiate experience coming to head our program,” said CHS Athletic Director Danny Erickson. “He is a passionate, knowledgeable, committed individual who is ready for this opportunity. We are so very lucky to have landed him.”
“I could not be more honored and humbled for this opportunity to join the Canton Bulldog community,” MacKinnon said. “Canton High School has a proud tradition of great athletes, outstanding coaches and a culture of doing thing the right way. I can’t wait to get to work with these student-athletes and help build a championship program in one of the most competitive leagues in the state.”
