Isabel was born in Boston and graduated from Canton High School in 1959. She graduated from Catherine Labouré School of Nursing as an RN in 1962. She worked for several years at Massachusetts General Hospital, including as the personal surgical assistant for the chief of urology.
Following her marriage to Douglas E. Buie, they moved to New York City where she worked as a psychiatric nurse at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Later, she moved to Wilton, CT, where she continued her nursing career at a doctor’s office and raised their son, Paul.
In 1986, she and her family moved to San Diego, where she obtained a BA from the Design Institute of San Diego and co-founded Buie and Sharkey Interior Design. She also worked as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Scripps Ranch, CA. Finally, she and her husband moved to Laguna Niguel, CA, to live with their son and his family. She had three wonderful years living with her son’s family, in particular her two beloved grandsons, Douglas and Liam.
Isabel is survived by her husband of 42 years, Douglas E. Buie, her son, Paul D. Buie, and daughter-in-law, Veselina P. Buie, and her grandsons, Douglas E. Buie II and Liam J. Buie. She is also survived by her brother, Anthony E. Galvin of San Diego, and her sister, Paula M. Corridan of Springfield, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Isabel was an exceptional woman, loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed greatly by her family, friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, Isabel asked that donations be made to her grandsons’ school, referencing the Isabel Galvin Buie Memorial Fund, St. Anne School, 32451 Bear Brand Road, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677.
