Early voting available for 12/14 special election

By

Town Clerk Tracy Kenney has announced that early voting for the December 14 special town election will be available in person at Canton Town Hall, 801 Washington Street, on the following dates and times:

* Saturday, December 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

* Monday, December 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Tuesday, December 7, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Wednesday, December 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Thursday, December 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Friday, December 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The December 14 special election pertains to the proposed town purchase of the St. Gerard Majella Church property. Following approval at the December 1 Special Town Meeting, voters will now be asked to approve a debt-exclusion override to finance the purchase of the property. (The debt-exclusion override would increase property taxes for the term of the bond).

Town Hall is handicap accessible, and if a special election is required, an AutoMARK ballot-marking device will be made available to voters who are blind, visually impaired, or have a disability or condition that makes it difficult to traditionally mark a ballot.

In addition to voting early in person, registered voters would also have the option of requesting an early ballot through the mail. Applications can be downloaded at MassEarlyVote.com or picked up in person at the Town Clerk’s Office. The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8.

Please note: Once a voter has cast an early ballot, he or she may no longer vote at the polls on Election Day.
