By Canton CitizenNancy Marie Farrell, 71, wife of Edward Oranje Farrell, passed away on Thursday afternoon, September 15, 2011, peacefully at her home in Canton in the presence of her husband.
She was born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Edward L. Smith and Evelyn M. Smith (Proctor). She was the sister of Edward “Sonny” Smith and his wife, Carol, of Irvine, CA. Also the step sister of the late George Proctor of West Roxbury and the niece of her late aunt Dorothy L. Hamilton of Gloucester.
Nancy was raised briefly in Magnolia and later in the West Roxbury area. She will be remembered for her humble, unselfish and caring way. She lived her life lovingly, caring for her family and friends. She was very gentle with a generous spirit.
She is survived by her three children: Melissa and her wife, Carolyn, of Shirley, Jamie Slattery and his wife, Carol, of Dedham, and Scott Slattery and his wife, Mary, of Uxbridge. She had four grandchildren: Mason, Francesca, Sean and Julia Slattery. She will also be missed by her close cousins, Gloria and her husband, Arthur Landry, Suzanne and her husband, Dale McCalla, and her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Beloved sister in-law to Meity, Iris, Shandre, Very and Reggy and their spouses and children. Nancy was also a beloved stepmother to Yvonne, Joyce, Cory and their spouses, children and grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Tuesday morning, September 20, at the Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
