Revere Trust outlines proposed budget for FY23

By

Representatives for the Revere & Son Heritage Trust presented their first essential services budget to the Canton Select Board Tuesday night as they outlined their operational plans for the burgeoning Revere Heritage Site in the coming fiscal year.

The proposed budget is around $71,000 but does not include costs to further design and develop the Paul Revere Museum of Innovation and Discovery, which will be located inside the historic Revere barn. The museum is expected to obtain an occupancy permit in either April or May.

Making the presentation were trust members Alan Hines and Victor Del Vecchio, who also announced two upcoming events at the Revere Heritage Site: a Heritage Festival on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine) and a family fun day featuring a live performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band on June 4 from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

At last year’s town meeting, voters allocated $11,000 to the Heritage Site to cover FY22 costs, but this year’s projected budget is more expansive, covering professional services (legal and financial), office and facility supplies, website and technology costs, cleaning and maintenance, insurance and utilities, and community events. The budget does not include an executive director, although both Hines and Del Vecchio agreed that such a position may be needed in future years once the museum is completed and fully operational. Both members projected a trust donation and event revenue goal of $36,000. Donations can be made by visiting paulreveremuseum.org/donate.

Hines said over 50 vendors have signed up for the Heritage Festival and the May 14 event should be an opening showcase for the museum. “It’s the first real [Heritage Site] event,” he said.

In other budget news, Fire Chief Charles Doody is requesting $218,000 for a new deputy fire chief of operations and Veterans Services Agent Arafat knight is requesting $21,200 for a part-time time assistant to help with office duties and coordination of events and activities.

In other news from Tuesday night’s meeting:

* The Select Board formally recognized CHS senior basketball stars Fay Gallery and Kiara Cerruti for surpassing the 1,000-point scoring milestone this past season. Cerruti reached the mark first and finishes as the program’s new all-time leading scorer with 1,174 career points. A few weeks later, Gallery joined her in the exclusive club and ends her career third on the all-time list with 1,022 points. Loughran said it is rare for a team to have a single 1,000-point scorer in any given season, let alone two players on the same roster. “The town is very proud of you both,” he said. As the No. 10 seed in the Division 2 state tournament, the Bulldogs won two straight playoff games before bowing out to No. 2 Medfield in the quarterfinals.

* The town will begin accepting bid proposals for its first …
