Virginia M. Hagerty (Galligan), 91, of Canton, passed away at the Hellenic Nursing Home October 6.

Born in Canton, she graduated from Mission High School in 1936 and Boston Teacher’s College in 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Canton. She worked as an elementary school teacher for the town of Canton and was a former member of the Bank of Canton’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

She was the past president of the Canton Catholic Women’s Club, a charter member of the Legion of Mary in Canton, Eucharistic minister at St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton, and past president of the Xaverian Brothers High School Mother’s Guild.

Beloved wife of the late John E. Mother of Richard J. and Donald L. Hagerty and his wife, Theresa, all of Canton. Sister of the late Sister M. Marion S.S.N.D. and Paul Galligan. Grandmother of Timothy, Paul and Michael Hagerty.

A funeral mass was held Monday morning, October 10, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Rd., Wilton, CT 06897. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
