Sika Sarnafil helps Dorchester homeowner

Rebuilding Together Boston, with funding support from Lowe’s, Sika Sarnafil and Greenwood Industries, announces the completion of their fall project to repair and renovate the home of a family in need in Dorchester. Rebuilding Together Boston is an affiliate of the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities.

A volunteer team from Sika Sarnafil in Canton and skilled laborers from Dr. Fix-It in Swampscott and Greenwood Industries in Millbury repaired the home of Doris Smith, an elderly Boston homeowner who has lived in her house for 40 years. She raised her children in the home and is now living with her six grandchildren and daughter. The home burned some years ago and Smith and family were forced to live out of the home for four years until repairs were made. The contractor hired to repair the damage left without finishing the work, and Smith, who is retired, did not have the funding to make the additional needed home repairs and renovations.

Sika Sarnafil volunteers removed debris, painted the home’s interior, landscaped and planted new flowering shrubs. Skilled laborers installed a new front door, windows, made parapet repairs on the roof and other needed work. Sika Sarnafil provided roofing materials and Greenwood Industries provided labor, which made possible the installation of a new roof to prevent further leaks.

“Our project to improve the home and quality of life for Mrs. Smith and her extended family speaks to the mission and vision of Rebuilding Together Boston,” said Simone Auster, president. “Lowe’s and Sika Sarnafil have allowed us to engage volunteers and skilled laborers to deliver an incredible home renovation to a wonderful woman and her family.”

“We are honored to provide support to Rebuilding Together Boston,” said Jay Thomas, director of marketing for Sika Sarnafil. “This is our third Rebuilding Together project and the first one in the Boston area. Speaking on the behalf of our employees, we are very happy to have this opportunity to give back to the community and help others fulfill Rebuilding Together’s mission to improve the quality of life for those in need.”
