Canton jumper makes history at Blue Hills Regional
By Canton CitizenCanton’s Marcus Griffin, making his high school postseason debut as a member of the Blue Hills Regional varsity track team, leapt into the school record books with a long jump mark of 21’1” at this year’s MIAA Division 6 Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Holyoke Community College.
Not only did the freshman phenom break a 24-year-old school record; he ended up placing second overall out of a field of 21 competitors that included only one other freshman and one sophomore.
Apparently still not satisfied, Griffin then went out and broke his own record just a week later en route to an 11th place finish at the 2022 Meet of Champions in Westfield against the very best jumpers in the state. This time, he was the lone freshman in the field as well as the Warriors’ lone representative at the annual All-State competition.
Congratulations to Marcus Griffin on a stellar season and what looks like the start of a memorable athletic career at BHRTS.
