Boys’ track team finishes regular season with 3 wins
By Mike BergerThe CHS boy’s indoor track team finished its regular season at 3-4-1 with a win over King Philip (52-34) and a loss to Franklin (61-25) in tri-meet action last Saturday at the Franklin Field House.
Leading point scorer for the team in the regular season was Jon Vaughn with 75, followed by Christian Bates (51), Matt Sidney (40), Dan Alexander (29), Jordan Guyton (20), Jimmy Paschal (17), Mike Bronstein and Joey Ward (16), Chris Ha (15) and Nikita Amelchenko and Marty Fauche (11).
Vaughn was the top point scorer in Saturday’s tri-meet with two wins (50-yard hurdles, 6.7 seconds) and two second-place finishes (50-yard dash with a best time of 5.9 seconds). He also finished third in the high jump with a best jump of five feet, four inches.
Other first-place finishes were turned in by Sidney (high jump, 6 feet), and Paschal, who won the mile against KP in 5:08 and placed third against Franklin. Bates also won the 1,000-meter race against KP in 2:44.2 and placed second against Franklin. Guyton won the 300 against KP in 40.2 seconds and tied for second against Franklin.
Other second place finishes were earned by: Bates, 50-yard hurdles, 7.1 seconds; Bronstein, mile, 5:08.4, Vlad Leopard, 600 meters, 1:38.2; Amelchenko, 1,000, 2:51.6; Fauche, 300, 41.2 seconds; Ward, two mile, 10:30; and Alexander, shot put, 39 feet, five inches.
Other third place finishes were earned by: Bates, 50-yard hurdles; Ha and Leopard in the 600; and Ward and Saeed Vossoughi (11.30.8) in the two mile.
Although Alexander was the only one to score points in the shot put, coach Chris Elgar said the throwing squad had some good improvements in the tri-meet: Frankie Karnes, 35 feet, seven inches; Chris Walker, 34 feet, eight inches; James Grella, 33 feet, six inches; Aravind Sivaram, 25 feet, eight-and-a-half inches; Wes Mok, 24 feet, seven inches; Ben Wiseman, 24 feet, three inches; and Andy Gabourel, 20 feet, five inches. Elgar credited CHS track coach Kerri Oldmixon with working with the throwers during the season.
