Landrigan, Claire

By

Claire Landrigan (McEnaney), 91, of Canton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

A lifelong resident of Canton, Claire attended St. John’s grade school in Canton and graduated from high school at Jeanne D’arc Academy in Milton. From there she went onto Framingham State College. Claire grew up on High Street in Canton and with the exception of a year or so never left High Street. In 1958 Claire, along with her husband, Joe, bought the house right next door to her parents, Mac and Helen. It was at 135 High Street, where they raised their three daughters.

Claire was the mother everyone would have wanted. She filled the house with love, laughter, compassion, and a strong presence of God. Her devotion to the church was strongly instilled in her family. For many years she was an active member of the Canton Catholic Women’s Club and a Eucharistic minister at St. John’s in Canton. She was a real people person and had so many lifetime friends. She enjoyed her Tuesday card group and Thursday Mah Jong group.

Most importantly, though, was her family. She loved children and along with raising her own three, over the course of eight years she took in 34 (Catholic Charity) babies — always two at a time and upon entering the home you were often given a baby to hold along with a bottle. How she loved those babies!

Claire had a wonderful sense of humor and could be quite the prankster. Even in her 80s she and dear friend Blanche loved nothing better than to pull off a good joke on some poor, unsuspecting person. Claire loved life and treasured all of those who were a part of her and she will be missed by so many.

Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph, of 63 years. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Helen McEnaney and sister to Jean Buker, Lois Foss, and Robert McEnaney, who predeceased her. Loving mother of Janet Starzyk (Michael) of Naples, FL, Robin Urbon of Canton, and Tammy Lovelady (Michael) of Lancaster, CA. Cherished Nana of Kacey, Paul, Erin, Danielle, Kerre and Ali, and great-grandmother of five.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, November 4, from 4-7 p.m. at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Church, formerly St. John’s. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park.
