CCPC accepting pre-apps beginning December 12
By Canton CitizenStarting Monday, December 12, the Canton Community Preservation Committee (CCPC) will begin accepting short-form pre-applications for future funding consideration.
As the town-appointed body tasked with vetting project proposals for Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding, the CCPC had previously voted to pause the acceptance of full applications during the upcoming budget cycle. While this pause remains in effect, committee members voted at their November 7 meeting to move forward with the acceptance of pre-applications — a normal part of the application process — and evaluate them individually for conformance to the CPA statute and alignment with the upcoming revision of the Canton Community Preservation Plan. These pre-applications will be considered as an introduction to the general full application process for the next funding round at the spring 2024 annual town meeting or any other special town meeting that may be scheduled.
According to the CCPC, the decision to accept pre-applications beginning this month will give applicants more time to work with the committee to “adjust and finely tune their request in advance of the full application process.” It will also allow the CCPC to see what projects are being considered by town boards, committees, youth groups and interested citizens, and to determine how well the spread of pre-applications aligns with the newest update of the Community Preservation Plan, which is currently in the editing stage. (To be eligible for any amount of funding, all projects must address one or more of the following CPA priorities — historic preservation, open space, outdoor recreation, and community housing.)
“The CCPC appreciates the community’s patience as it completes this significant update to its preservation plan,” committee members stated in a press release. “As part of the committee’s charge to study the needs, possibilities, and resources of the town, the updated preservation plan will help guide the CCPC’s future recommendations and is a key stepping stone towards CCPC’s readiness to accept and consider full applications. In the meantime, the committee encourages potential applicants to utilize the pre-application form to introduce their project ideas to the CCPC.”
Pre-application forms can be found on the town website at town.canton.ma.us/685/CPA-Applications. For more information, email CCPC@town.canton.ma.us.
